Building Technologies III aims to consolidate students’ knowledge of materials, construction and planning. The course’s subjects of discussion are the production of details and the reciprocity between construction and detailing processes. Details and their presence or necessity for the production of buildings have been exhaustively discussed in architectural discourse, but so far only on a visual level. Thus, the discussion has remained on the surface of things. We therefore intend to explore the genesis of ideas and architectures starting from the very core and the intrinsic characteristics of discrete details.

Territories and place making in public space We will look at maps as a representation of surface, space and place, and maps as media showing time based relationships between places on a three dimensional surface (public urban square). The research on the depth of this surface and the interaction of human beings with this surface ask for dynamic perspectives, and a discourse on orientation in space.

As a continuation of the pre-thesis seminar, this is a required course for masters architecture students in their last semester of study. This course through an emphasis on representation and documentation supports the intellectual foundation of the thesis and helps to formulate and organize the structure of the project. The research material, the process of production, and a critical view of the project are complied into a book format which will be archived in the library as the synthesis of each thesis.
