Überblick über die Entwicklung und Techniken der Tafel- und Leinwandmalerei von den Anfängen bis zum Staffeleibild der frühen Neuzeit, anhand aktueller Fachliteratur sowie technologischer Studien exemplarischer Werke am Kunsthistorischen Museum, Alten Pinakothek und dem Rijksmuseum. Thematisiert werden der kreative Prozess, Zusammensetzung und Schichtgefüge der Gemälde, Oberflächen, künstlerische Intention, Produktionsbedingungen, Werkstattfragen und originaler Kontext. Berücksichtigt werden angrenzende Aspekte, die es zu differenzieren gilt, wie Veränderungen durch Alterung und/oder spätere Eingriffe/Überarbeitungen, Kriterien für die Rekonstruktion, Herangehensweise und Möglichkeiten technologischer Studien sowie Interpretation bildgebender Verfahren. Vermittlung dieser Lehrinhalte erfolgt durch Erläuterung zahlreicher Bildbeispiele (Vortrag) und Exkursionen (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Gemäldegalerie und Restaurierwerkstätte).
Overview of the development and techniques of panel and canvas painting from its beginnings to the easel painting of the early modern period, based on current scholarly literature and technological studies of exemplary works at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Alte Pinakothek, and the Rijksmuseum. Topics covered include the creative process, composition and layer structure of paintings, surfaces, artistic intent, production conditions, workshop practices and the original context. Consideration is given to related aspects that require differentiation, such as changes due to aging and/or later interventions/alterations, criteria for reconstruction, approaches and possibilities for technological studies, and the interpretation of imaging techniques. Es werden Konzepte für Maßnahmen an mobilen Kulturgütern entwickelt. Der Ansatz und die Methodik werden unter Verwendung von Beispielen aus der Berufspraxis und Publikationen vorgestellt. Darüber hinaus werden die Unterschiede europäischer und internationaler Definitionen und Terminologien besprochen.
