'Animation is not the art of drawings that move, but rather the art of
movements that are drawn. What happens between each frame is more important
than what happens on each frame' Norman McLaren
'Animation is not the art of drawings that move, but rather the art of movements that are drawn. What happens between each frame is more important than what happens on each frame' Norman McLaren Animation 2 (methods) is the continuation of the course Animation 1 (fundamentals). It engages with various animation techniques as well as theoretical approaches to animated film. The aim is to become familiar with different methods and approaches to animation and to explore them in practice. The course Animation 2 pursues three central objectives in knowledge transfer: - Art-historical and contemporary positions in the field of animated film Teaching historical developments, artistic movements, and significant contemporary positions within animated film. - Introduction to film analysis Learning fundamental analytical methods of film studies, with animation as the central object of investigation. - Techniques and tools of animation Learning different analog and digital animation techniques as well as relevant tools for their implementation. The aim of the course is to enable students to independently develop and refine artistic strategies within animation practice and to conceptually plan their own animation projects. The practical realization of these projects can take place in the course Animation 3 (Project). In order to provide students with an artistic and academic perspective on animation, relevant literature will be regularly introduced in the lecture.
